Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) is produced by the neutralization of nitric acid by ammonia. Ammonium nitrate is used in industry to make fertilizers and explosives substances and mixtures, and as a nutrient in producing antibiotics and yeast.
Ammonium nitrate does not readily burn but will do so if contaminated with combustible material. It accelerates the burning of combustible material and produces toxic oxides of nitrogen during combustion.
